UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA Application Essay Tips 2023

Question 1: Required (500 words) Please respond to the questions below that will assist us in learning more about you:

1. Tell us what your immediate career goals are and how you will benefit personally and professionally from earning an MBA at Kenan-Flagler Business School. As the business world continues to evolve, circumstances can change and guide you in a different direction. Should your goals that you provided above not transpire, what other opportunities would you explore?

UNC Kenan-Flagler wants to know what you wish to do just after your graduation. What inspires you to follow this goal? Which industry/function you wish to join and how you wish to contribute to your organization? What are some of the major responsibilities that you wish to shoulder? How you believe this role will improve your professional network and broaden your leadership horizon? Explain elaborately all aspect of your short term goal. You can use suitable anecdotes to describe any eye-opening episode of your life that inspired you to follow your particular goal. Your career goal should be realistic and attainable.



Why Kenan-Flagler?

This is the section that will truly demonstrate the power of your research. Talk to student ambassadors,attend admissions events & webinars, network with alumni via LinkedIn or Facebook, and interact with the admission officers in order to know all aspects of the program. If possible, please visit their campus in Chapel Hill.

The USP of Kenan-Flagler is its unique culture. It’s not cut-throat competitive rather quite collaborative. You can showcase why such a culture is suitable for your leadership development. Moreover, the school focuses on case study and small group activities. Demonstrate how the STAR program (Student Teams Achieving Results) will help you to sharpen your leadership skills.

In addition to that, there are lots of clubs in which you can network with like minded individuals, interact with industry leaders, and actively participate in sports and music. For instance, if you are an IT applicant who aspires to become a strategy consultant, show Kenan-Flagler how you are going to spearhead the Business Technology club and meet with prominent alumni in the Consulting club. If you wish to build a successful career in the renewable energy business, illustrate how the Energy club will be vital for you to meet with some of the biggest leaders in this sector.

In conclusion, do an in-depth research on Kenan-Flagler and thereafter link useful components of the program with your career goals. Showcase various aspects of their student life to make it clear how the ensuing two years at the Chapel Hill campus will refine your personality as well.

Plan B:

Your Plan B needs to be at least as achievable as Plan A. 2. Identify the most challenging situation that you have encountered and how you responded while upholding that core value.

First, study carefully the core values of UNC Kenan-Flagler Choose one that resonates the most in your heart. It is just a 250 words essay. So, UNC hasn’t asked you “why”. Instead they want you to demonstrate how you adhered to this core value during the most challenging phase of your life.

You can pick any story from either your professional life or extracurricular activities. Reflect on your life and identify the most challenging episode that you have encountered. Now think how you have upholded your value while struggling to overcome the difficulties. For instance, if you have cared for an ailing spouse for a long time who was suffering from cancer, then you might choose “integrity” as one of your core value and explain eloquently how you have demonstrated honesty, sincerity and trust during that challenging phase of your life. Or, if you are a US military veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, you might chose “teamwork” and illustrate how you have collaborated with other men and women in uniform in order to carry out some of the most dangerous military missions.

Narrate your story elaborately Give an eye-catching introduction. You may begin the essay with a moment of tension or realization of the risks that you were facing. Then give the context so that the reader understands what led to this moment or contributed to the challenge. Finally showcase what you did – your analysis, actions, problems faced, and so on. Show (instead of telling) how you upholded your core value. Finally, narrate the lessons that you learned. It’s quite a tall order for just a 250 words essay.
